Italic Fonts

Italic Unicode fonts you can copy and paste.

Italic reads as a softer emphasis than bold — useful when you want a line to feel distinct without shouting. It pairs well with plain text above and below it.

Where these characters come from

Italic exists in both serif and sans-serif variants in the mathematical block. The serif italic is the one that looks closest to conventional book italics; the sans version reads more like a modern interface font.

Worth knowing before you use them

One quirk worth knowing: the italic serif lowercase h is missing from the mathematical block, because it was already encoded elsewhere as the Planck constant. Generators substitute the nearest match, so that single letter can look slightly off.

Where this family earns its place

Italic suits a subtitle, a tagline, or a quoted line under a plain heading. Because it reads quieter than bold, it works where you want separation without hierarchy — a role description under a name, for instance. Avoid running it across more than a line or two; the slant that makes it distinctive at short length becomes tiring to read at paragraph length.

The method matters more than the name: it determines whether your letters are replaced, recased or merely marked, and that in turn decides how the result behaves when pasted into a field that validates its input.
