Use Cases

Vertical Text

Stack characters down the screen instead of across it.

Short answer

Vertical text is made by putting a line break between characters, not by rotating anything. It works wherever multi-line input is allowed and collapses back to one line in fields that strip line breaks.

How it works

Vertical text is made by placing a line break between characters rather than by rotating anything. It works wherever multi-line input is allowed, and collapses back to one line in fields that strip line breaks.

Where it breaks

Any field that strips line breaks collapses vertical text back into a horizontal row, usually with no warning. Single-line inputs do this by definition, and several bio fields silently normalise whitespace on save. Test by saving and reloading rather than by looking at the input box before you submit.

An accessibility note worth taking seriously

A screen reader reads each line as a separate line, so a word stacked vertically is announced one letter at a time as if it were an initialism. For a decorative flourish that is tolerable; for anything carrying meaning it makes the content genuinely unusable, so keep real information on a single line.
