Geometric Shapes
Squares, circles, triangles and blocks.

Where these characters come from
Geometric Shapes and Block Elements were encoded for terminal graphics and diagrams, back when drawing a box meant assembling it from characters. That heritage is why the set includes so many partial fills and fractional blocks.
How reliably they render
Excellent support, since these characters predate Unicode and were carried over from earlier standards. They are a dependable choice for dividers and progress-bar effects in plain text.
Questions
Why are these so reliably supported?
They predate Unicode. Block elements and geometric shapes were carried over from earlier character sets used for terminal graphics, so they have been present in fonts for decades.
Can I build a progress bar out of these?
Yes, and the partial block elements exist precisely for that. A row of full and light shade blocks gives a readable bar in plain text, though a screen reader will announce every character individually.
